Ursula and Kieran were married in Rathsallagh Country House on 29th July 2018
Ursula and Kieran live in Dublin with their three boys, Noah, Ethan, and Seth. They met at work way back in 2005 but didn’t get together properly until 2010. Kieran proposed to Ursula on a family picnic in April 2015 in Anne Valley, Co. Waterford. Ursula was so shocked, she made him ask a second time, and then happily accepted.
Not ones to rush, the search for a venue didn’t commence until 2017. The date was set for July 2018 and the planning began.
The couple’s main goal was to have a stress-free day, full of family, friends, fun, and laughter. And, most importantly for Ursula, dancing! The ask was for a top class yet homely venue, where family and friends felt welcome and relaxed and the kids could run about freely, with lots of prosecco, high-quality food, great music, and one hell of a party!
The Couple visited Rathsallagh House and were most taken by the walled garden and the beautiful grounds.
Having looked at a few outdoor venues, the happy couple first visited Rathsallagh House and were most taken by the walled garden and the beautiful grounds. They immediately visualised their ceremony in the walled garden among the fabulous flowers and apple trees.
Catherine was the wedding consultant who met Ursula and Kieran at the viewing on the day, and they were struck by her warm welcome and genuine hospitality. Catherine and all the staff were utterly attentive and in control, giving the busy couple a sense of ease about planning the day. Ursula just wanted to ‘rock up in her dress and have a party’ and the beauty of Rathsallagh is that you could do just that, with minimal or no extra decoration or ‘personal touches’ required. Yet, because Rathsallagh was available exclusively on the day, the couple and family could take over the venue and grounds, making it their own.
With the venue decided, the vendors were selected and Ursula began the hunt for a dress. Again the criteria were simple, and that was to be able to dance freely in the dress and be comfortable on the day. Ursula was delighted that it was her mother-in-law who was with her when she eventually found her Justin Alexander dress in Bijou Bridal, Tramore, Co. Waterford. However, her mother-in-law wasn’t best pleased when the bride-to-be decided to cut off the train!
Ursula was delighted when her friend, Caroline Quinn, proprietor of Dirty Fabulous Vintage on Wicklow Street, designed and made her birdcage veil and headpiece, along with styling her accessories for the day. Together with the dress, and the vintage-inspired hair and make–up, the whole look had an old Hollywood glamour feel. Not only do Dirty Fabulous have a wide range of vintage bridal, they also have exquisite accessories and headpieces.
On the big day, after a long blissful summer of sunshine, theirs was the first day that the heavens opened and it rained all morning. However, wedding consultant Gillian in Rathsallagh wasn’t deterred and really went out of her way to make the couple’s dream of having an outdoor wedding come true. Due to the fact that Rathsallagh now has a stunning Granary Room for ceremonies, Gillian had both the walled garden and the Granary set up, so they were able to decide at the very last minute. And, miraculously, the clouds cleared for the afternoon and they had their ceremony outside.
Rev. Hugh Gormley was the solemniser and the ceremony was lovely, no formalities, intimate and personal with tears and laughter, while the guests surrounded the couple as if they were part of the ceremony.
Another really special part of the day was the Inishowen Gospel Choir. This happy couple first saw the Choir perform at the Glastonbury Festival in 2009 and swore that, if they ever got married, they would ask the choir to sing. So, last September, they went back to the Glastonbury programme from that year and found their name! Thankfully, the choir agreed to make the five-hour journey from Donegal to join Ursula and Kieran on the big day. The couple and their guests were blown away by the choir and it really set the tone for a great party.
Our guests are still raving about the fantastic rooms, the food, and the service at Rathsallagh House
“We loved every minute of our wedding day, there were so many special moments, from getting ready in Rathsallagh with both families and our own boys around us, to the drama of ‘Will it ever stop raining?’ to holding my mother’s hand as I walked down the aisle to ‘Oh Happy Day’. Having our boys involved in the ceremony and witnessing our love and commitment, the really relaxed and chilled vibes of the day, the laughter, the tears, the dancing and the craic – it was all wonderful!
Our guests are still raving about the fantastic rooms, the food, and the service at Rathsallagh House. It was such a special day, only made possible by the vendors we chose, the O’Flynn family and staff at Rathsallagh house and, most importantly, the individual part that all of our family and friends played in making our day so special and memorable, and the best party ever!”
