Joanne and Stephen were married at the Radisson Blu St. Helen’s Hotel, Stillorgan on 10th February 2018

Stephen and I met in September 2008 in the ever-so-famous Copper Face Jacks! I fell for his London accent and cheesy chat-up lines, so we exchanged numbers over a few drinks at the bar. At the time, I was working as Cabin Crew for Aer Lingus and had to do many layovers in London. Stephen said he would like to meet up the next time I was over. I thought little of it until he called me a few days later and, as I was rostered for an overnight stay in London that week, we arranged a date.

On our first date, we had dinner in Kensington, and that is how our dating continued for a couple months, until Stephen decided to come over to see my home and my way of life in south Dublin. My life as Cabin Crew was hectic, but we made it work and became an item on a trip to San Francisco. We commuted back and forth to London for four years until I took an opportunity to take some leave from work and give London life a shot. This is where we stayed for the next four years. On 1st February 2014, we welcomed our first child, a baby boy called Conor, and then decided to move back to Dublin in August 2016.

Before I knew it, he was down on one knee and proposed

On Christmas Day 2016, Stephen gathered my family in the living room and started to make a speech to my parents! Before I knew it, he was down on one knee and proposed. I think my Dad was more nervous than Stephen but it was a lovely moment for us all with Conor there as well.

When it came to choosing a venue, the Radisson Blu St. Helen’s Hotel, Stillorgan, was always a hotel I had admired with its picturesque gardens, elegant décor and well-preserved architecture, so I contacted Zuzana Hasler, Wedding Co-Ordinator at St Helen’s. We arranged to see the hotel in all its glory at their Winter Wedding Fair. Then we made it official and booked our wedding for 10th February 2018.

We had a few meetings during the year in the lead-up to the wedding. Sorcha McGrath was on hand with Zuzana as she was finishing up on maternity leave. Sorcha was more than up to speed with our arrangements and was a constant help with my endless Excel spreadsheets! Choosing my dress was not the easiest task. I had drawn a rough sketch of what I could imagine myself in and it turned out to be exactly what I went for.

I knew lace wasn’t for me, A line with a satin finish was my look, I wanted a simple dress, with some sparkle and let the accessories do the talking. I eventually found exactly what I was looking for in The White Room in Mullingar.

The night before the wedding, my chief bridesmaid, Sarah, and I stayed in a lovely balcony suite on the fourth floor of the Radisson Blu St. Helen’s Hotel, Stillorgan. I woke up totally fresh for the day ahead. I had Michelle Regazzoli-Stone and Katrina Kelly on make up and hair duties, they certainly kept the atmosphere calm while we got beautified. Sorcha was up to see me regularly to let me know how things were going and let me know that everything was OK. As we were having a humanist wedding, the ceremony was being held in the Pembroke Suite. It was a winter-themed wedding and everything was just magical. The room was transformed and styled by Gotcha Covered who work alongside the Radisson Blu St. Helen’s Hotel, Stillorgan.

Once our ceremony was over, we went straight upstairs for a group photo and enjoyed our reception drinks at Le Panto bar. We really loved the surrounded area of the hotel as it has beautiful décor and a sense of pure elegance. We were thrilled it was available for our guests to enjoy. We re-entered the Pembroke Suite around 6pm where we had the most delicious meal and partied into the early hours. I had requested for candles to be placed throughout the room, and the smell was just divine.

One thing I was very particular about was that we wanted everything to run on time and no delays with the meal. The meat was perfectly done and there were even seconds!

I can’t thank all the staff at the Radisson Blu St. Helen’s Hotel, Stillorgan, enough for everything they did for us, particularly Zuzana, Sorcha, Ashleigh, Anthony and Alfredo. Our son, Conor, was a concern for us on the day as he struggles with crowds and noise. But, with the help of the entire team, we were are able to relax and enjoy the day. We then spent a few days in a hotel in Co. Wicklow after the wedding but our real honeymoon is later in the year. We are going on a family holiday with my parents to the Algarve, Portugal.
