Victoria & David’s Wedding at Coolbawn Quay

Victoria & David’s Wedding at Coolbawn Quay

Childhood sweethearts Victoria and David started going out at a young age. As we had been together for 11 years we both knew we wanted a relevantly short engagement and we got married just a year after we got engaged.

Coolbawn Quay suited us perfectly. It had such a lovely relaxed atmosphere

We had been looking at a few venues but we fell in love with Coolbawn Quay as soon as we saw it. Terry, the wedding coordinator, and the staff were amazing. On our first visit there they were preparing for another wedding and seeing how much everyone cared about even the smallest of details really impressed us. They do go above and beyond. We wanted our guests to feel at home and Coolbawn Quay suited us perfectly. It has such a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Next on the list was the search for the dress which was relatively easy.

We got a boat to bring us from the church to Coolbawn Quay

I got my dress in De Staffords Bridal Nenagh and couldn’t recommend them highly enough. I was dealing with Louise who is just fantastic at her job and was so helpful every step of the way. It was so comfortable and fit like a glove; perfect for dancing the night away! For my bridesmaids I had my sister Jessica and two best friends Ciara and Louise who were great and so helpful with everything.

The morning of the wedding was so relaxed and was so much fun; all getting ready together. The hair and make up girls, Cailiosa Murray MUA and Natalie O’Brien Bridal Hair, were fantastic and made everyone feel at ease. We were all ready ahead of schedule and I was so eager to get to the church we were even a little early!

As the journey from our home to the church was an hour I really wanted us to be able to travel together so we rented a Volkwagen Van from Lazy Day VW Rental. That way all the bridesmaids, Mum and Dad and I could all go together. Sue from Lazy days was very accommodating and a great help. Bridesmaid dresses were Coast.

David had his three best friends Eric, Seosamh and Eoin who did a great job getting him home from the stag in one piece and also getting him to the Church on time! Groom and groomsmen were kitted out by Martin Feeney Formal wear in Galway.

The setting is really out of this world

We loved the idea of the wedding being personal and a reflection of us as a couple so we took a hands on approach towards a lot of elements. We made the invites, mass booklets and nearly all of the decorations ourselves. We are very lucky to have two very creative mothers! David’s Mum did an unbelievable job on our flowers. She did all the bouquets, church flowers and table arrangements. She kept them all very natural with a wild garden feel which suited Coolbawn Quay perfectly.

My own Mum made many of the decorations and handmade two gorgeous knitted dolls of a bride and groom which we will treasure forever. Although doing these things yourself is a lot of extra work we really enjoyed it and were so delighted with the finished result.

We had the ceremony in Terryglass Church a beautiful location about 10 minutes from Coolbawn Quay. We knew the celebrant through family and it made it all the more special he made sure the mass was personal and so relaxed. It was one of our favourite parts of the day.

We got a boat to bring us from the Church to Coolbawn Quay which was a really fun and memorable experience. We travelled with the bridal party and had time to relax and have a few glasses of champagne and a bite to eat before the reception. When we were out on the lake the rain was torrential and we were wondering how we would ever get off the boat without being soaked but just as we got to Coolbawn Quay, the rain stopped and the sun came out as if by magic! The boat pulled in right at the decking where the drinks reception was being held, so it was lovely to be greeted there by all our guests.

We felt very lucky to be starting of the celebrations with a drink overlooking beautiful lough Derg. As soon as we arrived we were met by Grainne and Margaret from the hotel who took care of everything; we really felt like we were in such good hands. I can honestly say we did not worry about one thing on our big day as we trusted them to do an amazing job, and they did.

The setting is really out of this world, the food was absolutely delicious and it was so lovely to hear such great feedback about it from all our guests. Our evening entertainment was provided by a Galway Band – Raindance who were fantastic they really got the crowd going and kept them dancing till the early hours. A priority for us was that the whole day was really relaxed and we both wanted to make sure that we didn’t miss anything because we were off getting photographs taken!!

Michelle our photographer ticked all those boxes. From the start she was so easy to deal with and always happy to help or answer any queries we had. On the day itself she was fantastic she was always in the background capturing the special moments as they happened without ever being obtrusive. She made everyone feel comfortable and managed to get even the most camera shy family members to take part!

We both liked the idea of a more adventurous Honeymoon so we tried to squeeze in a few locations. First stop was Guatemala for an adventurous week of trekking and exploring. Then we moved onto Belize for an unforgettable rainforest experience. Finally we had a relaxing week in the Sun in Mexico.
