Seafield Hotel Real Wedding
Walter and I first met through work, hard to believe it was 12 years ago. I was on work experience in J. Donohoe’s in the accounts department and Walter was in the hardware department. From day one we hit it off straight away and had so much in common. Our first date was to the cinema and it was so cold outside that night that Walter gave me his coat to keep me warm and from that moment I knew I had found the love of my life.
On 30th May 2008 we got engaged on a very picturesque mountain in Madeira. I noticed Walter was acting uneasy all day. He was holding on to his backpack very tightly and as the sun was going down Walter got down on one knee and took out a sparkling engagement ring and asked me to be his wife. Without any hesitation I said “yes”.
Our next step on our journey was to buy a house and settle in to our new life together. We then started to plan and save for the big day, I had always had a vision of the fairy tale wedding since I was a little girl. I studied loads of magazines including the Irish Wedding Diary and we attended wedding fairs and knew we wanted a vintage style intimate wedding with family and friends.
There was no doubt that St. Patrick’s Church Monageer was where we wanted to get married as it was our local church.
After all our searches for a venue we fell in love with Seafield Golf and Spa Hotel in Gorey. The hotel had a very welcoming reception and amazing food with incredibly friendly staff. The hotel offered us and our guests free use of the thermal suite for the next day.
In the months coming up to the wedding we were busy organising what needed to be done like sending out invitations, dress and suit fittings, menu planning, hen and stag parties etc. PJ and Adeline from Seafield helped us plan the menu and seating arrangements. They were very efficient and coordinated our vintage wedding theme excellently. They even got a birdcage from Panache for the reception and they had the hotel decorated beautifully. We couldn’t have asked for any better. We had several menu tastings and no matter what we wanted Seafield’s chefs accommodated us.
We had four bridesmaids and best men and a flower girl and pageboy. Our bridesmaids and best men were a fantastic help to us leading up to the wedding and on the day itself. Walter’s brother Charles was the Best man and he helped keep Walter’s nerves at bay.
The morning of the wedding was so calm and relaxed. This was due to our photographer Fergul McClean from Diamond Photography and Conor Stafford from Lens Videos who were so pleasant and put us all at ease. They were both fantastic and Fergul’s style of photography was very natural and unobtrusive. Richard from All Events Limos collected my Dad and I in a glamorous 1930s style Brenchley Convertible car. Gillian Flynn from Kiss n Make-up and Joanne O’ Brien from Aideen Vonno’s did a fantastic job of beautifying all of the bridal party and making sure we all looked our best.
The wedding flowers were from Helena’s florist in Gorey. Helena and Phyl’s flower arranging style was so elegant. They added pearls and lace with a pink ribbon and brooch to my bouquet. It looked very princess like. Our cake was hand crafted by The Cake Creator in Gorey. We decided on a four tier with birdcage on top and had matching cupcakes in vintage pink and blue. For the evening’s entertainment we had Fergal and his team from Celtic Dance Fusion perform Irish dancing and Riverdance! He even taught Walter a few steps from river dance. Our photographer Fergul set up his photo booth for our guests as an added surprise. We had the best fun with the photobooth dressing up and he could fit 7-8 people no problem in each photo. We were delighted to have our guests enjoying themselves.
The most nervous part for me was remembering the dance routine that we had practiced for our first dance. Everything fell in to place and we had an amazing day. To top it all off the hotel offered us and our guests free use of the thermal suite for the next day which was a very welcome touch. I really can’t thank the staff of the Seafield Golf & Spa Hotel enough for making the whole wedding perfect from start to finish.
Two days after the wedding we headed off on our honeymoon on a Mediterranean cruise. It was our first ever cruise and we both loved it. We had such a relaxing time and yet still got to visit four Countries!
After a joyous wedding and romantic honeymoon we can now start our new life as Mr and Mrs Christopher.
