Real Wedding of Emma and Eamonn in the Bridge House Tullamore
Eamon and I met on a night out in the classic “eyes meet across the crowded room” scenario and I just had to go over and say hi! The next week or so we went on a night out with friends, and he brought me to the cinema a week later. Before I knew it we were going out. When we met in April he had already organised to go to Australia the following October. Eventually I followed him out three months later, and he came home with me the following March.
Eamon proposed in Prague, in September 2015 and I was delighted, even if the proposal was a long time coming as we are going out eight years! Initially we wanted a small intimate wedding, but the list just kept growing! I think we ended up with 180 guests or so.
We had just two bridesmaids and two groomsmen, as we wanted to keep it intimate. My chief bridesmaid was my best friend Eimear, whom I have known all my life. Eimear and her mother Catherine (my Godmother) invited me to leave from their home that morning, which meant so much to me. My best friend Stephen was also very involved in the planning and preparation, and we invited him to sit at the top table. He was my ‘groomsman’ and ‘wedding planner extraordinaire’! My bridesmaid was Stephanie, a very close friend for many years. Eamon chose his brother Niall, who made the most amazing speech, and his best friend Davy whom he has known for years.
We went to Guy Clothing in Tullamore for the guys’ clothes. Anthony and the team took such good care of us, we were just thrilled with the experience. The guys looked great on the day, and Guy looked after every little detail – they even had the ties pre-knotted in a double windsor!
We had always spoken about going foreign for our wedding, but when it came to deciding we felt the best option was to stay at home, for various reasons. I am a manager in the Bridge House Hotel, and have worked there for 10 years. I knew without question they would look after me so well, and give me the most amazing day.
We chose Drumraney church for many reasons, but mainly as my late mother is buried there. We wanted to include her in as many ways as possible on the day.
My wedding was special for various reasons – my mum passed on when I was just 12, and my dad had to look after four of us on his own. I am the eldest daughter, and he found it extremely emotional on the day. I have been helped through my life by many amazing women/mother figures, and I wanted to honour these ladies on the day. Instead of the usual mother of the bride bouquet, I had four bouquets, and made a speech to thank my new mother in law, my dad’s partner Mae, Catherine and my dear friend Theresa. We had photos of my late mother, and mentioned her throughout the day.
At 5.30pm the night before my wedding, my band cancelled – disaster I know! Stephen was straight on the phone, and Noel in the Bridge House called every contact he had! Eventually Simon Casey confirmed he was available, and would be delighted to help. He spoke to me directly, and explained how he would take care of me and give me the best show possible – wow did he come through on his promise! The dancefloor was full all night, and Simon and his band did the most amazing job! He really saved the day, and made a potentially sad bride very very happy!!!
Also, all unexpected hiccups turned out to be quite fortuitous! Even though I had wished for a sunny day, with photos in local gardens, the weather was not on our side, and it was quite wet and windy! This forced us to go to Charleville Castle, which was not on my initial agenda, but Noel made a call and organised this for us. We got the most stunning photos in Charleville, and the team there were so obliging to allow us to use the castle on such short notice! My photographer was Clare Frances Cassells, and she did such an amazing job on the day. She was so lovely to deal with, and made myself and Eamon so at ease. She is an extremely talented photographer, and I am so glad we chose her. My father had asked his friend, Harry Quigley, to do our wedding video. Harry has retired, but agreed to oblige! Initially this was not something we were going to do, but am so glad we did – the video is such a wonderful way to look back on the day, and I will treasure it always.
My colleagues were just amazing. Our General Manager, Danny, in particular really helped me in the lead up, and explained I was a bride, not an employee – and any request I had would be fulfilled. Stella, our Banqueting Manager was so wonderful in the lead up, and on the day – I knew she would look after me so well! Noel, our guest relations manager, acts as our wedding chauffeur also, and took such good care of us all. Martin from Anna Harvey Chauffeurs and Noel arrived in the most beautiful cars, and were such a pleasure to deal with. Noel played such an important part on the day – he even MC’d the wedding! He is such a unique individual, and the hotel is so lucky to have him! He is an absolute joy to deal with, and took such good care of us all on the day.
Overall I am overwhelmed, overjoyed, and eternally grateful! My new husband and I have memories to cherish. There is not one aspect of my wedding day which could have been better. The Bridge House Hotel was the perfect choice for us, and all of my guests were blown away with the experience. So many have texted and called me to say it was the best wedding they ever attended – and you can’t get much better than that!
Our wedding day was the single most amazing day of my life. From start to finish I was beaming with sheer joy! The church and ceremony was just beautiful, and the hotel reception was amazing. The food, service and overall experience far exceeded any of our expectations – I knew it would be good, but could not comprehend just how good! The moment I arrived at the hotel, to be welcomed by all my lovely guests and colleagues, I knew this day was going to be something really special! My guests are still speaking about the food – from the vintage arrival reception to my sumptuous meal, buffet desert and evening banquet. Everything was superb. I always say the love is in the detail, and every last tiny detail was sheer perfection.
We went to Dubai and Mauritius for just under two weeks. We had an amazing time, and met some lovely people. Mauritius was beautiful, although it was winter time, so the weather was actually quite wet and cold at times! There were some beautiful days, and we had a wonderful experience. We booked our honeymoon with Sinead from Travel Counsellors, who was extremely friendly and helpful.
