Honeymoon in the Maldives

Dream Honeymoon

When booking your dream honeymoon, look no further than the worldwide holiday specialists at Travelmood. Recognised for delivering exceptional service, personalised care and expert advice based on your needs and preferences, you can expect only the best from their team.

If you are dreaming of the ultimate honeymoon destination, filled with white sand beaches, turquoise waters, exciting activities and delicious delicacies then the Maldives is the perfect destination. This stunning archipelago of islands located in the Indian Ocean offers honeymooners the perfect chance to continue your celebrations and allow you the perfect start to married life. Boasting glorious sunshine all year long, waters like nowhere else and underwater beauty that is second to none, it’s no wonder that the Maldives are such a popular honeymoon destination.

The Maldives are often referred to as the lowest country in the world, with its highest natural point less than eight feet above sea-level, making it perfect for wandering around as the terrain is mainly flat. The seductive islands of the Maldives are a spectacular natural masterpiece beaming with beauty in every corner. Due to their small size, each island typically has just one hotel, which simply adds to intimate atmosphere, allowing its guests the perfect chance to enjoy some blissful alone time with a loved one.

Dining

Traditional Maldives food is similar to Malaysian in style and naturally, being surrounded by water, the Maldives are quite famous for their seafood, with skipjack tuna being a local speciality. If you are interested, you and your partner can take cooking classes to learn local, traditional cooking techniques so that you can bring a piece of the Maldives home with you. The best option for honeymooners is to choose an all-inclusive resort, allowing you to sample many different dishes and styles for the best value for money. Many hotels fly in top quality chefs from around the world. This is one of the main reasons that hotels are your best bet for food in the Maldives. They will have chefs who specialise in cooking local dishes and others who are adept at various world cuisines.

Rest and relaxation

The Maldives have numerous top quality spas that are purpose-built to pamper you and your spouse and leave you both feeling like royalty. It will definitely prove helpful with easing away any stresses that may have built up in the planning process of your big day! Another surefire way to help you feel completely at ease is lounging on the perfectly white sands sipping a fruity cocktail while listening to the gentle lapping of the waters around you. The islands of the Indian Ocean, and the Maldives in particular, are renowned for their picturesque beaches.

Watersports

It is important to remember that the beautiful, unspoiled beaches are not just for sunbathing! Why not go snorkelling or scuba diving and get the opportunity to see some of the world’s most beautiful sea life? If diving doesn’t appeal to you, then there are also many exciting above-water activities to partake in, such as traditional fishing trips. Or you can head further out to sea, where speedboat trips and sailing opportunities allow you to take in more of the beautiful Indian Ocean. For the more adventurous, there are some watersports options too, with everything from surfing to canoeing and even jet-skiing on the menu!

Five must-dos on a Maldives honeymoon

  1. Enjoy a sunset on the beach – It may be a complete cliché but there’s a reason that this is so highly spoken of. Just spend a night on one of the picturesque beaches, watching the sun go down while sipping on champagne with your new husband or wife and you’ll understand why it is unmissable.
  2. See the coral reef – You absolutely cannot travel to this idyllic part of the world without seeing the coral reefs that adorn the islands. The crystal clear and delightfully warm waters make a dive by the reefs a perfect romantic activity.
  3. Explore on a safari boat – The breath-taking archipelago of islands offers so much to explore. Hop on a safari boat and discover those beyond your own little paradise.
  4. Take a submarine ride – Honeymoons are all about unique experiences and it’s not every day that you get the chance to ride in an actual submarine! Get on board the Whale Submarine in Malé and see everything from manta rays to turtles and even dolphins.
  5. Spot the bioluminescent phytoplankton – This may not sound so romantic on paper but when the plankton crash against each other in the water at night the bioluminescent phytoplankton light up to create a brilliant blue colour that shines like stars in the sea.

Exotic Romantic Package

The Sanchaya Unveils Suite of Romance Packages

Overlooking the South China Sea, the 9.6-hectare Sanchaya estate is located on Indonesia’s Bintan Island, a 45-minute ferry ride from Singapore’s Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. It is the only property on Bintan with its own VIP lounge at the ferry terminal, ensuring a seamless arrival and departure experience thanks to express immigration and customs clearance.

The Sanchaya doesn’t necessarily expect to be the same setting for any couple’s proposal, wedding, honeymoon and renewal of vows, but a host of new packages coming out this year invites just such a possibility.

The new packages leverage a storybook setting on Lagoi Bay, replete with powder white sands, aquamarine waters and one of Southeast Asia’s most picturesque resorts. Since opening in December 2014, the 21-villa and nine-suite resort has celebrated proposals, weddings and countless honeymoons.

The Proposal

The Sanchaya’s new engagement package features a private dining set-up on the resort’s beach, by the Olympic-sized infinity pool or in a Thai-inspired villa, as well as a romantic bath ritual in a large candle-lit soaking tub, bottle of champagne, heart-shaped cake, bouquet of flowers and a “Just Us” photo to take away.

“We recently orchestrated a proposal set up for a couple inside a heart of 124 candles on our secluded beach,” said estate manager Magnus Olovson. “We don’t want to suggest that the heart played a role in the ultimate acceptance of that proposal, but we all think that heart was very, very inspiring!”

As part of the romantic bath ritual, the couple chooses chocolate strawberries and champagne, canapés and single Malt or wine, or a cheese platter and port as complements to a large candle-lit soaking tub.

The Wedding.

Weddings at The Sanchaya range from an intimate beachfront ceremony for two to a larger formal dining arrangement for family and friends with the opportunity to completely buyout the property. Other ceremony backdrops include a manicured croquet lawn overlooking the South China Sea and by a private pool next to a serene lagoon at the property’s Thai-inspired Lawan village.  Sweeteners for the bride and groom include breakfast in bed with champagne, a massage for two with customized chakra oils and romantic beach dinner including the release of Thai wish lanterns.

Anniversary And Renewals

Both The Sanchaya’s anniversary and renewal of vows packages feature a night’s stay in one of the resort’s Thai villas, breakfast in bed with champagne, a couple’s spa treatment and dinner options such as a gourmet beach BBQ for two. As part of the latter package, The Sanchaya’s team arranges a pre-ceremony rehearsal and the ceremony and takes care of all of the finer details such as the bridal bouquet and groom’s boutonniere, floral decorations and cake.

The Sanchaya works with couples to create bespoke romantic experiences, with one couple recently opting to host their wedding at four-bedroom beachfront presidential suite The Vanda Villa, priced at US $10,000 per night, with an around-the-clock butler, a dedicated chef in its kitchen, private infinity pool and separate guest house.

Also, the tranquil infinity pool, beachfront manor’s vast, wraparound balcony, manicured croquet lawn and myriad other vantage points across the estate make for striking backdrops for pre-wedding and wedding photos.

Honeymooners Flying High with Emirates

Honeymooners are going Long Haul This year

Mauritius and Bali most popular for Irish honeymooners with Emirates

MAURITIUS-Emirates-HoneymoonEmirates has reported a significant increase in honeymoon bookings in Ireland, with the airline’s  honeymoon business up approximately 34% for the first seven months of 2016*, compared to the same period last year.

“According to the Central Statistics Office, the number of couples getting married in Ireland has stayed static at around 22,000**, so the increase in bookings is unlikely to be related to a rise in couples tying the knot,” said Enda Corneille, country manager for Emirates in Ireland. “Our sense is that consumer confidence is returning to the Irish market and it’s easier now than ever before to get to amazing honeymoon destinations such as Dubai, Mauritius and the Seychelles.  Emirates flies twice daily from Dublin to Dubai and from there, honeymooners can connect directly to idyllic locations across Asia, India, Australasia or Africa.

“The honeymoon is seen as the perfect opportunity to take that holiday of a lifetime and couples want to make the most of their time away as well as their budget.  The current trend for newly weds flying with Emirates from Ireland is to take in two holiday destinations, usually involving a stop over in Dubai on the return journey, where the lure of year-round sunshine has huge appeal.”

The top four most popular destinations for Emirates’ honeymooners from Ireland this year are Mauritius, Bali, Thailand and the Seychelles. “Bookings are up significantly across these destinations in particular and there is great value to be had with return flights*** to Dubai starting from €472 and  Thailand from €653,” said Enda Corneille.

10% of Emirates’ honeymoon customers from Ireland opt to travel in Business Class to enjoy extra onboard comforts and service including gourmet cuisine, complimentary champagne and a selection of fine wines, lie-flat seats, an airport chauffeur collection service and a generous baggage allowance of 40kg.  August is the most popular month for marriages, with January the least popular.

* Based on passenger bookings with Emirates leading tour operators in Ireland.

** Central Statistic Office statistics for 2015 released April 2016 relating to marriages and civil partnerships in Ireland.

*** Economy Class return flights inclusive of all taxes.  Terms & conditions apply.
