Aoife & Joe In The Four Seasons Hotel Monaghan

Aoife & Joe In The Four Seasons Hotel Monaghan

I first met Joe on a night out in Armagh on my 19th birthday when I was out celebrating with friends. To be honest I had my eyes on him for a while before that night! Technically our first date was Joe collecting me and going for a spin to get…..diesel!! However, a week after that we had the traditional cinema date and soon after became a couple.

Joe proposed to me on 16 December 2012 on top of Slieve Donard Mountain. We had climbed Mount Kilimanjaro together in January 2011 and prior to this most weekends were spent hiking the Mourne Mountains, mainly Slieve Donard so it has special memories for both of us.

My beautiful dress was by Ronald Joyce

As we both have a large circle of friends and family we knew straight away that we wanted to have as many of the people we cared about surrounding us on our special day. The Four Seasons Hotel Monaghan is a place where we had been to weddings before and we both agreed that we always had a fabulous time and the food and staff were always consistently first-class. We had been to see a number of venues and when we visited the Four Seasons Hotel, we knew pretty much straight away that this is where we wanted our wedding celebration to take place. The Four Seasons Wedding Co-Ordinator Barbara and all the staff members were extremely accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. And as I learned, no question was too silly! They look after you from the moment you walk in enquiring about your wedding until you walk out the door as Mr & Mrs.

Four-Seasons-RW-_MG_1452I had two bridesmaids, Rachel a neighbour who I grew up with and had known from when we were children and Rebecca a cousin and godchild. I was thrilled to have both of them at my side on the day and also in the run up to my wedding. Rachel was super organised and had a calming effect on everyone and Rebecca loved helping with all the organising especially the dress shopping, I was very very lucky to have both of them by my side the whole way through.

It sounds cliché but our wedding day was the best day of our lives from start to finish

My beautiful dress was by Ronald Joyce which I chose in Pronuptia in Belfast. I saw the photograph of the dress online and knew straight away that it was the one and so after researching who stocked it, I contacted Pronuptia to make an appointment and said that I only wanted to try on that dress, and when I did, I just knew it was the one.

Joe and his best man and groomsmen got their suits from E&M Stores in Cootehill. We had heard great things about them from family so they dressed the men in their finest. Joe’s only brother Mark was his best man and he also had his close friend Sean as groomsman. We both enjoyed the run up to the wedding and tried to take it all in our stride and not let anything get too overwhelming. Both of us together made most of the decisions regarding every aspect so it was a joint effort, family and friends were great and everyone was willing to help when needed. It was important to us to make every part of our wedding day as personal as possible. My cousin Lauren sang at the Mass, Joe’s cousin Emma made our beautiful wedding cake, another cousin of mine Charlene made the girls’ hairpieces and my mother, who is very talented, made our bouquets. This made things extra special for us to be able to use the talents of our friends and family to create our perfect day.

It sounds cliché but our wedding day was the best day of our lives from start to finish, the sun shone which we know is mostly unheard of in Ireland. We both had a great time getting ready in our own homes with family and my great friend and hairdresser Donna McCoy at my home all morning doing everyone’s hair while Stacey from s.a.k. Designs was also there doing make up.
We got married in St Patrick’s Cathedral Armagh which is close to my home. I always knew from a young age that if I ever got married it would have to be in the St Patricks Cathedral due to how spectacular it is. It was the perfect setting for us to become husband and wife.

The ceremony was a very special part of the day especially walking up the aisle with my Dad, and Fr Rory delivering the most beautiful Mass which put us at ease straight away. We had our photographs by Padraig Donnelly in the Palace Stables in Armagh and then we headed up to the Four Seasons Hotel Monaghan to join all of our guests again. Barbara greeted us with a warm smile and we had the opportunity to mingle with everyone before being seated for the most fabulous food. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff at the Four Seasons Hotel Monaghan and every one of our guests and bridal party were looked after extremely well. We danced into the early hours to our band 2morrows Party and everyone had a great time.

We went to Miami followed by a Caribbean Cruise then went to Las Vegas. We had an absolutely fabulous honeymoon. If only we could do it all over again.
